Project 1

• Compile a portfolio of at least five resources in your local area, specifically relating to community integration for people with a disability. The folder should contain information about services, programs and facilities that might be useful to people with a range of different disabilities.
• Include information relating to:
• service providers
• agencies and government support services
• aid suppliers
• community facilities and activities that might be of benefit to clients
• clubs
• recreation and leisure facilities
• entertainment venues
• transportation options
• innovative ideas or programs

You might collect brochures and pamphlets for the various providers, you could download information from the internet or you could consult with people who work in the various facilities.

Index your portfolio by drawing up a contents page on which the various facilities, programs or services are listed.

With regard to the materials you have collected:

1. Explain how you would make this information available to clients, family members and carers.
2. Suggest the type of person who might be interested in them (for example people with particular interests, preferences, needs etc).
3. Outline whether any of the services/ programs/ facilities accommodate particular cultural or religious needs.
4. Explain how people can access the services/ programs/ facilities.
5. create a feedback form for the services/ programs/ facilities that could be completed by clients to indicate whether they meet their needs.
6. Identify any barriers to participation for services/ programs/ facilities.
7. Identify how barriers to participation have been or could be addressed by services/ program organisers or facility management.
8. Explain how the services and programs uphold clients' rights.
9. Explain how the services/ programs allow clients to be active citizens.
