Team Development Assignment Purpose: Working in the field of Human Resources requires an ability to successfully and productively function with others in a team format. The ability to work effectively in teams is of the upmost importance. In order to understand what is needed for success, team members need to understand and develop the skills necessary to contribute to work, interact successfully with others and be able to resolve conflict when it occurs. The purpose of this assignment is to increase your team's understanding of what is necessary to become a High Performing, Value-Added, Self-Managed Work Team (HPVASMWT) and to develop a Team Charter (Contract) to understand what actions, characteristics, abilities and skills necessary to achieve the HPVASMWT status. The development of a Charter and an Evaluation Criteria for tracking the team's progress toward the goal of a well functioning team is important to success in the academic arena as well as in a professional capacity in the workplace. Method: Research- Your team will research and define the qualities a HPVASMWT possess. Purdue University has developed a Comprehensive Assessment for Team-Member Effectiveness (CATME)tool which would prove helpful in the team's research and is highly recommended. The research and tools from CATME will help the team do this project.
Charter or Contract-
Developing a Team Charter or Contract should be based on the team's academic research into the area of team dynamics and member characteristics, skills and functioning. This Charter needs to be specific as to what members are required to do to support the team, how they will interact with other members of the team and the skills they may need to develop in order to support the team.
Evaluation Tool/Method for Team-
An evaluation tool for your team is a part of this assignment and must be based on your research, tied to your findings and follow good evaluation principles. This third part of your assignment is to develop or adapt and evaluation tool which will allow members to determine if they are on track to becoming an HPVASMWT. During this semester, your team will be called on twice to report on how well your team is function, how the evaluation tool is functioning and other aspects of becoming an HPVASMWT.
