Assignment:
Speaking of organizations and technological changes . . . I am an Amazon Prime member, and I swear by them! Sure, I get a lemon once in a while; however, Amazon takes care of it with no issues.
They seem to be thriving because of what is known as disruptive innovation. According to Christensen, Raynor, and McDonald (2015), this occurs when a product or service is such an innovation (different from the status quo) that it creates a disruption (chaos) within the market of that product or service (para 2). In other words, they change the game, forcing others who want to survive to follow suit, change their own processes, or change markets.
I'm sure that all of us can see that many brick-and-mortar retailers are dying down due to several issues, with Amazon being one of the biggest reasons. They don't have the overhead that traditional stores have, so they operate less expensively than those competitors. They pass these savings on to the customer by giving lower prices for the same products. While there are drawbacks (you can't see the product before you get it, you can't try it on, you typically can't take it home that same day you find it), Amazon makes it better by shipping quickly or offering other incentives.
How the business environment evolves and the resulting technology? In fact, we learn specifics of organizations and how technology has helped or even transformed them?
