Compare how Order and Conflict Paradigms view Social Deviance To understand the two paradigms' view of social deviance, I would first like to give an example of how the book defines deviance. Deviance "Any behavior that does not conform to social expectations". While this is a more broad way of defining the term, I thought it might be helpful to provide prior to dissecting the differences in the paradigms' views.

According to conflict theorists, the wealthy and more powerful individuals use law making as a way to protect themselves and their positions. Conflict theorists typically argue that the structures and norms set for society by the government is a detriment to our society and not a helpful way of identifying deviants. In fact, some would argue that the construct itself would promote deviant behavior.
