I would like to expand upon the idea of health and medical care from the perspective of a Conflict theorist's perspective. As we do live in a capitalist society, how much of that mindset helps drive the medical field and healthcare? For instance, Martin Shkreli - the CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals - became the center of attention because raised the price of a life-saving HIV drug from $13.50 a pill to $750 per pill (Slotkin, 2020).

This was a 5,000% increase, which can make this drug unaffordable for many people. With that being said, this life-saving drug can cost people hundreds of thousands of dollars. Martin Shkreli stated: "This isn't the greedy drug company trying to gouge patients, it is us trying to stay in business" (Pollack, 2015, p.1). Do you agree or disagree that his company is not a greedy company, and how do you think his decision will impact HIV-positive patients?
