Automated machines are to be used in a workstation to complete an operation that requires 1minute per job. In addition to the operation time, a machine takes 5 seconds to move a job into position, and 3 seconds to move the job out of the machine. During an 8 hour shift, the machine is taken down for preventive maintenance for 30 minutes. A machine has a MTBF =100 minutes and a MTTR = 7.5 minutes. If the workstation must produce an average of 1000 parts per day, and the workstation will operate for two shifts per day, how many machines will be required?
