Discussion - Local Anesthetic Injection

Instructions:

A patient comes into the dental office for the following treatment: MOD amalgam on #30 and DO amalgam on #31. The patient is very nervous about the local injection as they have never had a cavity before and have heard terrible stories of the pain and discomfort during the administration of the anesthetic. They are also super nervous about being numb afterward as they had a friend who bit the inside of their cheek really bad when they were numb. They want to know:

How does the anesthetic work to numb the teeth that are being worked on?
How long will they be numb?
What should they do so they don't hurt themselves after the appointment?
What should they expect during the shot and what type of needle and anesthetic is going to be used?
