Much of social life is reliant on bureaucratic organizations. The readings this week highlight features and strengths/weaknesses of bureaucracies arguing that while we use this form of organization throughout society there are a variety of shortcomings for structure the social world around these principles. Clearly identify a bureaucratic organization you have interacted with or worked in and apply the features to the organization. Let's use the United Nations as the bureaucratic organization. Is this the best way to organize to achieve the goals/purpose of the group? How is power connected to this form of organization? How are actions controlled and formalized?
