Assignment:
Residential Schools:
Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women:
For this case study assignment, students are required to write a self-reflection. Students are asked to thoughtfully relate their reflection to intergenerational trauma, aversive racism, and oppression; indeed, these three aspects are interrelated.
Outline
Introduction:
- Should include a summary of what was documented in the videos
- An overview of what the rest of your reflection will include (this should be the last sentence)
Body Paragraphs:
The second body paragraph should include a definition of intergenerational trauma (as discussed in the lecture material- do not use outside sources), instances of intergenerational trauma depicted in the videos, and a discussion of how intergenerational trauma impacts the experiences of Indigenous people today in society.
The third body paragraph should include examples of how Indigenous people faced/face oppression both in the past and presently, respectively. You can use some concepts we have learned in class like acculturation theory, aversive racism, scientific racism, etc. to support your points; however, this is unnecessary.
The third body paragraph should include your self-reflection. If you are having troubles with understanding what a self-reflection should include, you can consider the following: emotional reactions you had to the video and why you think you had them; something new you have learned and its significance; something you disagree with and why; something you have witnessed or experienced in another context that relates to what you have watched. You do not need to include all these aspects; the tips serve as advice for those who are having trouble with the concept of a self-reflection.
Conclusion:
Should include a brief summary of what you wrote and its significance to Canadian society.
