Watch: How Great Leaders Inspire Action

Leadership expert Simon Sinek, describes a new way for leaders to become inspirational that he calls "The Golden Circle: Why? How? What?" as it relates to inspirational leadership. In essence, he states that in purposeful leadership, purpose is at the forefront of internal communications, and everyone in an organization is able to articulate the "why" or purpose for everything that they do as part of their role within the organization.

While you are watching this video consider the following questions:

  1. Have you ever worked for an inspirational leader? If yes, did they make sure that you always knew the "why" of the work that you were doing?

Consider Sinek's "golden circle" and how it might apply to an organization that you know well.

  1. How do you describe why the work of the organization is important?
  2. Can you describe how the organization fulfills its purpose?

Reflect upon your answers to the above questions and consider ways that you could apply this to any future leadership role(s). Apply these thoughts to the following questions:

  1. If you were to create the "ideal" team or organization, what would you do the same or differently from the organization you described?
  2. What steps/procedures or style would you use to create conditions for you to become and inspirational leader.
  3. How would you know if you were successful in creating these conditions?
