The late American economist, Nobel Prize winner in economics, much revered, and much reviled, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago, stated that "the only moral obligation managers have is to make a profit for their company". How can this statement be reconciled with the principle of Socio-Economic Corporate Social Responsibility? Are the two positions mutually exclusive? Can the two be reconciled? If not, what is YOUR position? How far should managers go in assuming social responsibility?
