First, you will identify someone who is culturally different from you to interview. This cultural difference can be based on any of several things: gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion, class, sexual orientation, etc. Before meeting your cultural interviewee, conduct some initial research about their culture and cultural identity. Then, based on your research, develop at least five questions of your own to ask your interviewee. Along with the questions you created, use the provided 10 questions below; therefore, you should have a minimum of 15 questions. The interview can take place in person, over the phone, or through a video platform.

Describe the lifestyle and culture in which you feel the most fulfillment.
What would you say is the most common misconception of your culture?
What is considered to be disrespectful and respectful in your culture?
What are some values of your culture?
What nonverbal behaviors (body language) demonstrate respect in your culture?
How would you describe your culture or lifestyle to others?
How do people greet one another in your culture?
How important is the individual in the culture? How important is the group?
Is change considered to be positive or negative?
How are "helping relationships" viewed in your culture? Please note that you may have to explain what a helping relationship is to your interviewee.

Then, based on your interview and research, you will develop an analysis of the culture you identified. Your analysis should include a description of the identified culture and the common values of the culture. Based on your research and interview, you will identify how these values impact the helping relationship.

Provide a reflection of your interview. Did you learn anything new? Did anything surprise you?
Provide the five additional questions you asked in your interview. These can be listed in bullet format. Why did you choose these questions to ask?
Did your research support what you learned in your interview? Why or why not?
Identify the common values held by this culture.
What are the special considerations that helping professionals should be mindful of when working with this culture?
Describe how the cultural values impact the helping relationship.
Define cultural competency and illustrate how you can achieve this in a helping relationship.
