Question

Worldviews are sets of beliefs and assumptions that express how cultures interpret and explain their experience. Worldview has been a useful explanatory construct in the social science literature but has been used less often in the context of human health. (Smedley BD,2003) My personal worldview is a critically important concept for health disparities education that overtime will serve to transform the culture of health care professionals toward a more self-reflective, humble, and open- minded posture.

In healthcare, we treat patients with respect, equal care, and compassion with a diverse and inclusive background. There are many different languages, race, culture and religion from all over the world that comes to my organization to receive care and surgeries. One of challenges that we had before in the perioperative areas is language barrier. It is very important to obtain the important information from pediatric patients or their families like their NPO status, stopping of certain medications, operative site and many other. The department has trialed many equipment and have done evaluations on them to see what actually works best for the healthcare professional. Finally, we have picked one equipment that does the video call live translator that helps to close the bridge of the cultural and language barriers between patients and healthcare professionals. This helps tremendously to be able to obtain accurate information, respect their culture needs, and also enable for me to provide safe, quality care to patients with diverse populations and backgrounds. It will also alleviate the concerns that patients and families might potentially have due to language barriers and not understanding what we are doing during the point of care.
