As a human service professional, you will encounter clients who have a multitude of problems and needs. As our society changes, it is our responsibility to remain aware of the changes and how those changes impact the services we provide. It is also our responsibility to know what services and programs are available in our own community. Please use the assigned readings and the Library to research peer-reviewed articles to support your paper.

Please respond to the following:

1. Locate three programs in your community, each serving one of the societal problems you identified in the Unit 9 discussion.
2. Identify the name of each program and provide a description of the program including the mission statement, the services the program provides and the population it serves.
3. How are these programs similar regarding service delivery? How are they different?
4. In your opinion, as you look at each program's offerings and mode of service delivery, have they overlooked anything in response to our changing society? If so, what? If not, how are they addressing societal changes?
5. Discuss how the changes that have occurred in our society and the family unit impact the way in which we as human service professionals provide services.
6. What special considerations do we need to take into account when we are providing services to families (i.e., legal custody, extended family or non-biological individuals who are perceived as family)?
7. How can human service professionals become more knowledgeable about and stay current on legal issues surrounding consent for treatment, and the difference between consenting for treatment and the ability to make educational decisions?
