Ankle injury. HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS: This is a l3-year-old female brought by mother, reports that she fellwhen she tripped over a cement ledge injuring her left ankle. She is uncertain of the exact mechanism of injury.Subsequent pain in the lateral left ankle. She has been unable to weight bear due to pain. No other injury. Nonumbness or weakness of her foot or toes. EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT COURSE: X-ray findings were reviewed with mother. She was placed in astirrup splint and given crutches in the emergency department. instructed on use. Further treatment, the needfor follow-up with Dr. Geraghty, and indications for return were reviewed with mother. She expressed goodunderstanding.IMPRESSION: Avulsion fracture left distal fibula. DISPOSITION/PLAN: Splint. Non Weight Bearing. To follow-up with Dr. Geraghty and to return for anyworsening symptoms. CLINICAL HISTORy: Ankle pain. REPORT: Three views of the left ankle s!o1a slightly-oblique fragment is nondisplaced' Fracture ao"t fractu_re through the lateral malleolus. The distal fracture fragment is nondisplaced. Fracture does extend to the inferior aspect of the lateral mortise. The mortise itself appears grossly congruent. There is associated ankle joint effusion and there is marked lateral malleolar soft tissue swelling. The distal tibiofibular joint appears intact. The tibia.
