This course will explore the ways in which knowledge of both the historical and contemporary underpinnings of issues have an effect on our sense of how we, as citizens, can engage problems and promote change. We want this information to influence our understanding of what can and should be done. To this end, we study history, we carry on complex discussions, and we refine our understanding of governmental and societal structures.?

For this weekly assessment, though, we will begin with a much broader question. To start the course, we want to begin to recognize and reflect upon how even the seemingly innocuous aspects of culture and civic life tell us things about values and norms. ?
