High purity silicon is obtained using a 3 step process. The first step involves heating solid silicon dioxide (SiO2) with solid Carbon to give solid and carbon monoxide gas. In the second step, solid silicon is converted into liquid silicon tetrachloride, SiCl4, by treating it with chlorine gas. In the last step, SiCl4 is treated with hydrogen gas to give ultrapure solid silicon and hydrogen chloride gas.
a) write a balanced equation for the 3 step process
b) calculate the masses of carbon, chlorine, and hydrogen required per kilogram of silicon
Draw the structures of [Co(NH3)6]Cl3 and [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2. Explain the difference between the chlorides in [Co(NH3)6]Cl3 and [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2
Copper reacts with any oxygen present as an impurity in the ethylene used to make polyethylene. The copper is regenerated when hot H2 reduces the copper(II) oxide, forming the pure metal and H2O.
a sample of iron absorbs 67.5 j of heat upon which the temperature increases from 21.5 c to 28.5 c. if the specific
A saturated solution of PbCl2 in water was prepared and filtered. From the filtrate, 1.0 L was measured out into a beaker and evaporated to dryness. The solid PbCl2 residue recovered in the beaker amounted to 0.0162 moles. What is Ksp for PbCl2
Explain how would I find the percent yield and what would it be if I have 3.292 g of p-anisaldehyde to start out with, 2.905 g of acetophenone needed for the reaction between p-anisaldehyde and acetophenone, as well as 4.151 g of recovered trans-..
A 11.7 mL sample of a HCl solution has a pH of 2.000. What volume of water must be added to change the pH to 4.000?
A 25.0-mL sample of potassium chloride solution was found to have a mass of 25.115g. When the solution was heated to dryness, the mass of the solute residue was 0.252g. Calculate the (a)mass/mass % concentration and (b) molar concentration.
what is the PH of cocaine hydrochloride that results from neutralizing a 25mL aliquot of 0.0372M cocaine solution
Name and give formulas of two acids that are strong electrolytes and one acid that is weak. Name and give formulas of two bases that are strong electrolytes and one base that is weak.
What is the approximate pH of a solution prepared by adding 20 mL of 0.10 M NaOH to 200 mL of 0.10 M HCl?
The buret is misaligned with the drop counter so approximately 10 drops of NaOH are added to the HCl before they are counted
