Baby Boy PT was born at 36 weeks gestation by vaginal delivery with no complications at birth. Being mildly premature, the baby had some difficulty with nipple feeding but blood glucose remained normal. With his last couple of feedings, he would only take 10 cc of formula with much encouragement needed. He regurged most of his last feeding. He had not stooled yet and had not voided for about 8 hours. With rectal stimulation, the baby had a small plug of meconium. At 16 hours of age, the NNP is informed that Peyton has not voided recently or stooled and now has developed some abdominal distension. She discusses the need for a suppository to assist him to stool and the need to start an IV for his lack of interest in oral feeds. Upon your examination, you find him very active, agitated and crying vigorously. He is pink in room air, with no apparent respiratory distress. He is 2400 grams, has a tense, distended abdomen, and a small area of "yellow" in his diaper.
