As an operations manager, you may be asked to research, evaluate and present options for different operational systems within the organization. This assignment focuses on developing those skills.
Scenario:
You work for a geographically dispersed automotive supply company with 25 different operating locations nationwide, you supply small to medium size metal parts (i.e shocks, struts, control arms, bushings etc). The CEO has requested that you examine the strengths & weaknesses of the three inventory management systems (FQS, FPS & SPI) before making a decision about which is best for the company. She has asked you to prepare a presentation for the senior management who work at the widespread company locations. The presentation should clearly describe the strengths & weaknesses of each of the inventory management systems.
The CEO is also keen to embrace technology to reduce both the time and expense of traveling to meetings and also to foster a more collaborative decision-making culture. With that in mind, she has requested that you send to her a copy of the PowerPoint presentation, together with a Memo recommending which technology you would use to present this information to the senior managers of the 25 locations nationwide. Specifically, she wants to know if it would be better to use synchronous or asynchronous technology to present the information. Additionally, she wants you you to recommend which social media you might use to discuss and collect feedback about the three inventory systems. From your experience of working with the CEO, you know you will need to justify all your recommendations.
