As a provider, it is important to gain the patient's trust through communication. The provider could have taken more time getting to know the patient instead of going to the vaccine education to gain the patient's trust. The provider's ability to communicate effectively is imperative in any healthcare sitting. Providers should be aware of the patient's knowledge level and situation because the patient is most likely anxious about being on dialysis. The provider must build rapport first followed by trust to help share information to the patient to provide patient centered quality healthcare. Once the patient has a rapport and trust in the provider, they will become more compliant and allow the provider to share important information. The provider must be conscious of information overload, as in this scenario could be the case also for the patient. Being effective with communication as a provider can solve issues as in PZ's case, the provider could have presented the information with printed education materials and told him he could read over the material and they could discuss his decision at next week's visit to give the patient a feeling that he was in control of his care and he was being.
