Case Study: The patient (Ruth) is a 79-year-old female that is experiencing limited functional independence status post a hip fracture. The patient was watering her plants in her garden when she tripped over the hose and broke her femur. She lives with her daughter and son- in- law in a single level home. She was independent with all ADLs prior to the accident and was able to drive. She is on her last week at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital and the OTA is going to be completing family training. The patient has 6 weeks to comply with her hip precautions (no internal hip rotation, bending past 90 degrees, and no adduction). The patient's son- in- law is able to make the training session but the daughter is unable to do a work trip. Patient's Functional Status Self- feeding: Independent Grooming: Set- up Assistance standing at the Sink Bathing: Close supervision seated on a transfer tub bench Upper body dressing: set- up assistance Lower body dressing: minimal assistance to manage pants using a reacher and sock aide. Cues for hip precautions Toileting: minimal assistance for pants management Toilet transfer: Close supervision using the RW and a raised toilet seat Tub bench.
