The mother's pregnancy was uncomplicated and her son was born full-term via spontaneous vaginal delivery and his birth weight was average for gestational age at 3000 grams (6 lbs 9 oz). The mother has been breastfeeding successfully with good technique every two to three hours on demand since delivery. Tommy's physical exam is normal and largely unchanged from the hospital; he is at the 70th%ile for height and head circumference, but his weight has decreased to 2,750 grams (6 lbs 1 oz). Mom is very concerned by this weight loss and wants to know what she should do.
