A distillation column separates 10,000 kg/hr of a 50% benzene-50% toluene mixture. The product D recovered from the condenser at the top of the column contains 95% benzene and the bottom W from the column contains 96% toluene. The vapor stream V entering the condenser from the top of the column is 8000 kg/hr. A portion of the product from the condenser is returned to the column as reflux R and the rest is withdrawn for use elsewhere. Assume that the composition of the streams at the top of the column (V), the product withdrawn (D) and the reflux (R) are identical because the V stream is condensed completely. Find the ratio of the amount refluxed R to the product withdrawn (D).

Why a substance is being heated at a fast rate the temperature of decomposition
Design a column for this separation. The column will operate at essentially atmospheric pressure. Use a reflux ratio 1.5 times the minimum.
At a flea market, you've found a very interesting painting done in the style of Rembrandt's "dark period" (1642-1672). You suspect that you really do not have a genuine Rembrandt, but you take it to the local university for testing. Living wood sh..

200 kJ of heat is added under constant pressure to 1 kg of steam initially at 30 bar, 400 °C. What is the final temperature? What is the change in internal energy during this process?
What is the optimum practical shape for an above-ground dwelling to minimize the heat losses through the building fabric? When is (or was) this optimum shape used? Why is this optimum shape seldom used in richer societies?
A plant has a batch of 100 kmol of a liquid mixture containing 20 mol% benzene and 80 mol% chlorobenzene. It is desired to rectify this mixture at 1 atm to obtain bottoms containing only 0.1 mol% benzene. The relative volatility may be assumed con..
The pressure of a sample of gas at a constant temperature of 25 degrees C is increased from 1.0 atm to 1.2 atm. If the original volume was 3.8 liters, what will the new volume be?
