Question

Discuss the key risk factors and causes for each condition, emphasizing how these factors influence the pathophysiological changes. In some areas, AKI and CKD share similar risk factors. For instance, individuals who are older in age, diabetics, and those with high blood pressure are at increased risk of both AKI and CKD (Myhre and Sifris, 2022). However, common CKD risk factors include obesity, smoking, heart disease, long term use of medications, family history, and history of AKI (Myhre and Sifris, 2022). In comparison, AKI risk factors include dehydration, infections, cancer, heart attack/failure, and kidney blockage of any kind, such as kidney stones (Myhre and Sifris, 2022).
