Over the years mainstream healthcare institutions have been exploring the integration of complementary and alternative medicine due to the patient and staff interest in trying alternative therapies in addition to conventional medicine. Due to the high demand, my current place of employment even offers a special alternative medicine certificate program for advanced care providers to assist in the use and promotion of complementary and alternative medicine. I hope to join one of the certificate cohorts once my schedule allows it because I believe it will assist in enhancing the care I provide to my patients. Tangkiatkumjai et al. (2020) performed a literature review to compare and contrast the reasons for the use and lack of use of complementary and alternative medicine around the world. The literature review revealed alternative medicine was used due to perceived benefits of decreased toxicity and increased safety in complementary medicine and lack of satisfaction in conventional medicine. Tangkiatkumjai et al. (2020) reported the lack of interest in complementary and alternative medicine was due to negative perceptions towards the therapies. With the increase in patients and staff members having knowledge on complementary and alternative medicine there can be an increase in collaborative opportunities.
