To better understand the early immigrant experience, spend some time exploring examples of assimilation. Search online for images that illustrate immigrants assimilation into American society from the late nineteenth through early twentieth centuries. Possible image types include photographs, artwork, cartoons, and primary source documents from the time period. You may want to focus on immigrants from a specific country or ethnic background.

After collecting at least five images, build a mini museum exhibit to share with other students. You may arrange your exhibit in a slide show, as a Word document, on a blog or as another type of web site. Whichever form you choose, the final product should include an explanation of each source, and each explanation should answer these questions:

1. What, specifically, does the source show or illustrate related to immigrants assimilation?

2. When was the source created?

3. Who created it and for what purpose?
