Question
Conduct research on a disability and explore how language is often used to stereotype, isolate, and marginalize individuals with disabilities. Retrieve a resource (hyperlink), one that refers to a limitation in functioning resulting from physiological, psychological, or anatomical condition of the body and/or mind. This resource could be a newspaper or scholarly journal article, website or web page, video, podcast, etc.
1. What disability did you research and why did you choose it?
2. How can this disability be considered invisible?
3. How do the concepts of privilege and invisible disability create conditions of oppression, inequality, and unfair treatment of individuals based on race, ethnicity, and/or disability, and what can be done to educate society about the intersectionality of privilege and disability?
4. How can you, as a social worker, apply your knowledge of the intersectionality of privilege and disability to dismantle conditions of oppression, discrimination, and unequal treatment of members of our society who are different?
