Question

Joseph Abdullah had exploratory abdominal surgery this morning to try and discover the origin of searing, localized abdominal pain in his right lower quandrant. He is about 3 hours post-op and needs admission to the unit from the PACU. The PACU nurse tells you in report that he is sleepy but arousable, with a LR IV at TKO in his left antecubital space. He has a foley catheter and a small abdominal incision. Post-op orders include q 1 hour assessment and VS, Cefoxitin 1.5 grams IVP q6 with a loading dose of 2grams IVP upon arrival at the unit. He also has a PRN order for 1-2mg MS IV for pain > 6 on a scale of 1-10.
