Exploration of exercise physiology

1. Define exercise physiology? Explain how exercise physiology differs from sport physiology.

2. Provide an example of what is meant by studying acute responses to a single bout of exercise.

3. Describe the essential characteristics of the three energy systems.

Health Care, and the Role of Economics.

How does economics apply to health care? In your own words how do you define health? Conduct a search for the term health from a public health source and choose the one that you think is the best. Provide the reference for this definition and elaborate on why you think this is the best definition.

Explain how an increase in income would affect the level of health in a relatively affluent country like the United States compared to a relatively poor country like Haiti. Be specific regarding the various factors that influence health and how they may differ in these countries.

Initial responses should be no less than 200 words in length not including your reference(s) and supported by at least two references (aside from the textbook). 

Food and Culture

1. What are "foodscapes?" Address the concept of invisible foodscapes in the U.S., providing specific examples. Why is that particular food considered to be invisible, and does this differ cross-culturally?

Quarantine and Isolation

Quarantine, isolation, and other public health control measures will be discussed this week. With that in mind:

1) Discuss the differences between quarantine and isolation. Use examples to make your distinctions clear.

2) Discuss current challenges to effective communicable disease control. Pick one of the challenges from the readings, or use one of your own, and discuss it here based on what you learned during this lesson. Your response must include the following:

What is the issue? Describe it briefly.

Is it appropriate to be regulated by public health law?

Why is this issue important? How do you feel about it?
