Assignment:
Background: Classical theories of criminology assume that people have free will or the ability to understand the consequences of their behavior. Therefore, they deserve punishment if they engage in criminal behavior. Positive school of criminology, however, is based on the assumption that some factors beyond free will may be playing role in wrongful behavior making some individuals more prone to criminality. Positivistic approaches use scientific methods to study factors underlying criminal behavior including biological, biosocial, or psychological correlates of crime.
Scenario: Let's assume that a police agency has hired your team to design a crime control model to address the crime issues in their jurisdiction. The empirical data that they share with you indicate that gang violence and prostitution are the most frequent criminal issues that they are dealing with.
For your Initial Post:
Think about the role of theory in explaining criminal behavior and informing policy and practice, and its benefit in creating effective crime control policies.
Design a crime prevention model using Positive school of criminology (biosocial or psychological theory of crime), and develop at least three crime prevention strategies informed by the theory of your choice. Be sure to explain how each strategy is linked to the theory of choice and what you expect to achieve by implementing it.
