The topic I selected to write about is Eugenics. This topic is defined as the study of selective reproduction among populations that result in "favorable" offspring. Eugenics emerged as the new science of the first quarter of the 20th century. It was also used interchangeably with "race improvement," which explained the innate connections between heredity, genetics and race (Marcus, 2021). The theorists that these groups follow and backup their research from is Charles Darwin, who had the fundamental idea of "survival of the fittest," in other words natural selection which selection is natural and that however survives is fit (Streeck, 2018). Where natural selection and eugenics differ is where eugenics requires that natural selection be replaced by intentional human control. An example of individuals who support this practice were Nazi Doctors in the 1930's who used eugenic ideals to justify sterilization, child and adult euthanasia and, ultimately, genocide (Grodin, 2018).

I have never personally thought too much on this topic in conversation but after conducting brief research and reading about the genesis of the theory and practice I believe it is ethically a violation of the sanctity of human life. Just with knowing that Nazi's favored this practice gives me uneasy mixed feelings about supporting this theory and having it be a justified human right.
