Assignment: Description: Organizational Case Analysis involves writing a description and analysis of an organization that the student works in or has worked in. The description and analysis is typically between 1200-1500 words. It has three major sections as well as a title page and a reference page. The sources for the analysis can be from any of those that are provided in or linked from the document named "dimensions of analysis for HW1" in the assignment folder. You may also cite web or print documents about the organization that you have selected to provide background information.

OVERALL PURPOSE of CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT

The purpose of this assignment is to unravel your feelings and thoughts about what is/was going on in an organization that has played a significant role in your life/career. The goal is to use the lens of organizational theory to help uncover and understand the major contributors to organizational behavior which have had an influence on the organization's success or failure relative to you, the organization, and society.

The mental, physical, and emotional energy that we exert for our employers is tremendous, not to mention the time. However the dimensions of organizational life are often tacitly accepted and taken for granted, much like water is accepted by the fish. The goal of this assignment, and of the entire 630 experience is to rise above the water to examine organizations and see them in a different light.

Your description and analysis will run between 1,000 and 1,500 words. You will follow the outline below.

SELECTING AN ORGANIZATION to ANALYZE

Section 1: The Organization

Paragraph 1

Please provide the name of the organization and describe the type of organization (for-profit publicly traded, for-profit privately held, not-for-profit, a unit of government, etc.). Please describe the industry that it is a part of (ex: manufacturing; education; military) and any niche or segment that it is in (ex: electronics, higher education, logistics, etc). Please briefly describe the mission or stated purpose for the organization.

Paragraph 2

Explain your relationship to the organization that you have selected (current employee, former employee, other relationships, etc.) Please briefly describe your experience with the organization.

USING DIMENSIONS of ANALYSIS to ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING

Section 2: Selecting Organizational Dimensions for Descriptive Analysis

There are 7 dimensions of analysis that are listed below. Your assignment is to select three of the dimensions and use the dimensions to describe the organization you have selected. Descriptions of the dimensions are in a document named "dimensions of analysis for HW1".

In paragraphs 3-8 (two paragraphs for each of the three dimensions selected) include at least 1 relevant citation from the description material provided to back up the foundation of your descriptive analysis. Use at least one citation for each dimension selected. Include the full reference for the citation on a reference page at the end of the case.

Based upon your descriptive analysis of the three dimension you selected, please describe and explain the most significant problem(s) or challenge(s) that confront the organization.

Paragraph 11

Based upon your description and analysis, if you had the managerial power to propel the organization in any way that you desired, what would you do and why would you do it?

Paragraph 12

Describe what the organization would be like five years from now if you had complete managerial control of it.

Reference Page (at least 3 references in APA format)

Assignment/Project Criterion:

• Create your paper as a Word document.

• Your paper should between (1200 - 1,500 words), excluding the cover and references pages.

• Paragraph 1 is the introductory and paragraph 12 is the concluding paragraph. Please use headings to identify each section of your paper as instructed in the assignment description. An abstract is not required.

• Use the third person point of view, and follow APA style guidelines for the cover page, running head, citations, and references page. If you refer to yourself or your role in the organization, use "the author" instead of "I."

• Your paper should be double-spaced with 1-inch margins on all sides.

• Use font type Times New Roman 12 pt. or Arial 10 pt.

• Use the sources that have been supplied to support your responses. Additional sources beyond those supplied are allowed if they provide additional insight into the organization, the industry the organization is in, or the dimension that you are using.

• Your paper must be original to this course. If you have previously completed a similar assignment for another course or you are retaking this course, you cannot resubmit a paper previously submitted.

• Do a complete review of your work to check for typos, clarity, and readability.
