Assignment - Business Needs Analysis
Introduction
You are employed as a member of a project team in a consulting company. Currently the company has 2 clients (see case studies attached). You need to select one client to work with.
Clients often do not realise how detailed their requirements need to be. As a result the case study provided has missing details that are required to complete the tasks. If this was a real client you would have multiple interviews, focus group sessions and observations to gather the missing details. Instead for this assignment you will have to make some assumptions about details the client would normally provide.
Your deliverables are:
• Project plan based on the provided template
• The transcript of an interview (or interviews if applicable) with the client to represent assumptions you made. Format: Consultant's questions, client's answers. Seek to both ASK the question as the Project Team Member and ANSWER the questions pretending to be the client.
• A UML use case diagram, with associated documentation (Word and/or PowerPoint format). In real life each Use Case would have to be presented as a fully-dressed use case. You are expected to depict all use cases on the diagram and provide brief descriptions.
• A Fully-dressed use case (different to the ones with brief descriptions) - individual submission
• An advice to management on Cloud Computing and its use for the chosen small business
Tasks (group work)
The marks for these tasks will be equal for all group members unless inadequate participation has been brought to your tutor's attention DURING work on the assignment period (NOT AFTER the submission).
1. Write a transcript of an interview with the client which fills in the gaps in the client's requirements and will cover your assumptions. The transcript should be in the format of questions and answers. The interview should focus on the business processes of the client's company and therefore on the functionality of the designed information system. You may pretend to have one interview with the business owner or more than one interview (e.g. more than one interview with the owner or one interview with the owner and another with the company employee responsible for the activities you are documenting). Unlike real life, restrict your transcript only to points covering gaps in the provided case study.
2. Based on the collected data, document functional requirements for the future system using a use cases approach (use UML notation). After listing all use cases developing brief descriptions of main success scenarios. You will get better marks if your descriptions follow the format "User does this, system responds with ..."
3. Explain the concept of Cloud computing to the management of the chosen business. Provide suggestions in which ways and what aspect of Cloud could be beneficial to their business.
Individual component
The mark for this component is not shared by the group members
Allocate 1 use case per group member for creating a fully dressed use case (using the Word template provided). No two group members should work on the same use case. The log-in process is not suitable for a fully dressed use case option (no marks will be allocated as the answer is provided in the lectures).
