Assignment Specifics:
Scenario: You work for the downtown branch of the Elm Park Public Library. Over the last 10 years, usage of the library has decreased 65%. There are a variety of reasons for this decline. Online book sellers, like Amazon have made e-reading easy. Research is being done using Google, rather than reference books at the library. You are the head librarian and the city manager has asked you to lay off 30% of the workforce at the Elm Park Public Library. However, those employees may continue to work as city employees if they are willing to work at the Parks and Recreation department for a 10% cut in pay. Benefits would remain the same.
1. Decide the best medium to use to relay this bad news to the affected. Explain the choice you make (100-200 words). If you choose to use a verbal method, describe what you would say and provide the affected employees with written information for reference that they can use for future reference. Make sure the written information is formatted properly. If you choose a written medium, explain why you chose that medium. Provide a copy of what would have been given to the employee. For example, if you choose to use email, then provide a completed, correctly formatted email. If you choose to use a memo, then provide a completed, correctly formatted memo.
2. Explain how you will communicate to those employees not directly affected by the layoff (100-200 words). If you choose to use a verbal method, explain what you would say. If you choose to communicate through a written medium, explain why you chose that medium. Please provide a final copy of any communication you provide to those employees not affected directly by the layoff.
