A 15-year-old girl has been experimenting with lysergic acid diethylamide with her friends over the last 3 months. They use it approximately two to three times per week. She has been behaving strangely for the last 2 weeks and has been accusing one friend of having been replaced by an identical imposter who plans to harm her. Parents and friends have tried to convince her that her belief is false, but she is not persuaded in the slightest. Police escort her to the emergency department for an evaluation after she physically attacks this friend at school. There was no known provocation, and the friend is also being evaluated in the emergency department due to an eye injury sustained in the attack. Nursing staff contacted the teacher who witnessed the attack for further information. The teacher reports that it had been a testing day and that the 15-year-old girl had done well on an algebra test a couple hours before the incident. In addition, the girl's friends admitted to school staff they all used lysergic acid diethylamide in the school bathroom about an hour before the attack. While attempting to interview the girl, she is primarily focused on what is happening.
