Mr.Mazda is a 57-year-old , 154.lb (70kg) patient who was recieved on the nursing unit from the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) after having a hemicolectomy for colon cancer. On initial assesment, Mr.Mazda was alert, yet anxious; his skin was cool, pale and moist; and his abdominal dressings were saturated with bright red blood. Urinary output was 100 mL over 4 hours. The patient was receiving 1000mL of lactated Ringer solution at 150mL/hr. Vital signs were blodd pressure, 80/60 min. Hg;heart rate, 126 beats per minute and respirations 40 breaths/min (baseline vital signs were 130/70, 84, and 22, respectively ). The nurse assessed that the patient was experiencing hypocolemic shock.
