A 79-year-old Asian man, Yun presented at the emergency department with new onset left-sided facial drop, left-sided arm and leg weakness, slurred speech and a sudden onset of a severe headache. These symptoms have been present for the last hour. A history revealed that Yun has had previous transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs) x 2 in the past year. He has hypertension and is overweight with a poor diet (high in salt) and lack of physical exercise. A CT scan has revealed a right-sided thrombotic cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Treatment is commenced with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA).
