The model most used in my experience is the Iowa model (Melnyk, B.M., 2023). For instance, as medical assistants, we follow specific rules and steps to care for our patients. To care for patients, this team included the nurse manager, clinicians, nurses, and medical assistants. What comes to mind is when COVID-19 hit our office. Rules were implemented to limit the number of patients coming into the office for their appointments. The problem was identified as limiting the possible exposure to the virus. The research for implementing less exposure to the virus was based on the EBP of the CDC. The practice changes we used were limiting in-office visits and utilizing video visits. I never evaluated the outcome, although we practiced this. I can only imagine that it lessened the number of patients coming into contact with the COVID-19 virus at our office.
