For example, if your family now speaks English but you have Irish, German or Chinese ancestors, you can select one of these ancestral languages for this project. You can also select a family dialect (unofficial version) of English or of another family (ancestral) language. Some examples of dialects are African-American Vernacular English (also known as Ebonics), Cajun English, or Min Chinese.

Once you have selected your topic, you will submit a two-paragraph project plan:

The first paragraph identifies the language/dialect you have chosen and explains why you think this will be a good one to explore for your final project. You should also provide a brief explanation of how you chose your language. What steps did you take in making your choice?
The second paragraph should include some preliminary discussion of the specific issues that are relevant to your language/dialect that you plan to focus on in your final project (make sure to review the final project criteria).

Cite the information from at least three relevant sources to help validate your selection of the language/dialect.
