1. After viewing the lectures, modules and chapters, what do you think of Neanderthals? Do you consider them close in appearance, behavior and/or accomplishments to Homo sapiens or not? Use at least three pieces of evidence from all sources to support your views. Was there anything else about Neanderthals that stood out to you when learning about them?
2. According to the film, textbook and lecture, what were some of the most notable advancements during the Upper Paleolithic (consult "Mind's Big Bang" film: Mind's Big Bang) made by H. sapiens? How may these cultural and physiological advancements have helped H. sapiens out-compete and out-survive other earlier Hominins such as Neanderthals?
3. According to the textbook and lecture (video lecture), what was the original, biological definition of race? What are your thoughts on how race is defined and categorized by the U.S. Census Bureau? Do they make sense based on how the categories are defined? Do you think we should maintain the racial categories as defined by them (Link here: U.S. Census Bureau: About Race? Why or why not? What are your views?
4. After reading the last chapter in your textbook, what do you think the future holds for humans? What are some possible risks or issues regarding infectious diseases and trends in growth and population that will affect our future? Are there any potential solutions to mitigating these risks?
