Assignment:

Think about using the "Sociological Imagination" to examine and attempt to form an understanding of social behavior and issues. Sociology takes several approaches to understand the behavior of groups and individuals within groups. These are social systems. I'm going to repost that short blog entry that might help you understand thinking in terms of systems a little better. If you remember it pretty well then just reflect on it and how it applies to what we are thinking about. "Systems".

Systems reach into every area of our lives some are formal some are informal think about those two concepts and read this short article "Taxes" Links to an external site.

How can thinking about systems help us to better understand how to solve social problems? Read this article from a few years ago about Wyoming and consider possible solutions Rock Springs, Wyoming.

Fortunately things have been improving, read this short article, think about why that might be, and what else might improve the situation in our state and in our area. How can we continue to have improvement with this important social issue?

1. Does it make sense to think about "systems" like "Seth's Blog" asks us to do? What are some ways that works? When would that maybe not work well?

2. What are some formal systems and what are some informal systems? What is functional or perhaps dysfunctional about your examples?

3. What are some unique issues in Wyoming that make its "system" problems (like the economy, or mental health) harder or maybe easier to resolve? What do you think about the article that talked about suicide in the Rock Springs area? Recent programs have had a positive impact, what else might help?
