You will examine the role of pedagogy and andragogy in nursing. Philosophically, nursing education has embraced andragogy as a preferred model of teaching and learning, but that does not always carry over into practice. In a power point presentation, select one med/surg nursing course topic (renal, respiratory, cardiac, endocrine, integumentary, gastrointestinal, etc) and identify three concepts related to that topic that you will teach your students. Use the Rule of 7s for power point presentations. In the following:
An introduction identifying the differences and value of pedagogy and andragogy in nursing education with referenced support. Discuss your chosen med/surg topic and the three concepts you want your students to learn with supportive rationale.
One concept related to your topic that you will teach utilizing pedagogy including two specific pedagogical activities you will use with supportive rationale (scholarly references).
A second concept related to your topic that you will teach using andragogy including two andragogical activities you will use with supportive rationale.
A third concept related to your topic that you will teach utilizing a mixed approach of pedagogy and andragogy and two mixed activities you will use with supportive rationale.
For each concept, be sure you clearly communicate a link between the concept being taught, rationale for either pedagogy, andragogy or mixed, and the chosen instructional activities and support each of these with scholarly research. Do not duplicate concepts or activities.
Describe how Knowles' theory of andragogy and McClusky's theory of margin relate to the student's learning experience and support student centered learning in your chosen concepts and activities with referenced support. (Chapter 5 of Learning in Adulthood).
