Course Description

This course is focused on the development, planning, and organization of language arts activities and lessons in early childhood education. You will demonstrate your familiarity with children's literature, reading readiness skills, and the teaching of reading, writing, listening, and communication skills. You will be able to effectively read, tell, and dramatize children's stories and participate in language games and reading/writing readiness activities.

Course Objectives

To acquaint learners with the basic objectives, methods, and materials of a language arts program for young children
To examine diverse types of children's literature
To familiarize learners with techniques used in dramatizing, reading, and telling stories to young children
To acquaint learners with guiding principles for teaching handwriting to children
To acquaint learners with reading readiness techniques and different programs available for teaching reading
To enhance the writing skills of learners through "low stakes writing assignments" to help them to think, learn, and understand more about the content area of language arts for young children.
