Question
The purpose of this is to begin to develop the skills related to clinical inquiry, a cornerstone of the evidence-informed process in nursing practice. Formulating clinical questions in a structured, specific way assists clinicians to reduce uncertainty in nursing care. A well-designed question allows nurses to find the current evidence that enables them to answer questions that arise in practice settings (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The PICOT is the formulation you will develop. This method of asking clinical questions sets the stage for a well-constructed systematic search of the literature. Students will identify a topic of interest and develop an inquiry question using the PICOT format. Submissions will be in PDF format to avoid formatting changes. The submission for this assignment is to be 1 page, excluding, the cover page, and references. The assignment submission must include:
- Identification of a contemporary, patient-focused clinical topic/question of interest within the nursing domain.
- A rationale for its choice including: how it is within the nursing scope of practice, significance (what is the size of the issue), and relevance (why is the issue important).
- A PICOT statement that correctly identifies the Population, Intervention, Comparison (optional if appropriate), Outcomes, and Timeframes (optional if appropriate) for the inquiry question.
- If a Comparison and Timeframe are not explicitly stated within the question, a rational must be given for their exclusion.
