Howard is a 67-year-old Veteran with PMH of NIDDM, HTN, HLD, and a tobacco user for 53 years, who presents to the primary care clinic for evaluation of cramping and aching pains in his calves and feet. Onset about 2-3 months now but maybe longer as he states he feels like it's probably been a while longer. He feels like his legs are weaker than normal, with occasional paresthesia sensation. Rest does not make the pain better. He is concerned about a "sore" to the back of his right lower leg and said his wife wanted him to get this "ulcer" checked out because it's been there about a month and not getting better with a bandaid or triple antibiotic ointment.
