Cindy, a 20-year old female is being evaluated for unusual episodic behavior. The previous week, Cindy's roommate was awakened by a noise, and found her lying in the bed unresponsive, drooling, and head and eyes averted to the left. Her left arm was slightly raised and her body stiff. Her face was jerking intermittently. When the paramedics arrived, Cindy's posturing and movements had stopped. After the event, she could speak but was somewhat incoherent. She was taken to the local ER where her exam and mental status was normal. Urine and blood work in the ER were normal. Cindy was encouraged to see her family physician.
