Professional codes of ethics

Everyone has different perspectives on ethics. Though the generalities of what is right and what is wrong tend to be similar, there are nuances that vary from person to person. For this reason, it is prudent for organisations to develop professional codes of ethics. It simply helps its employees make decisions when faced with an ethical decision. Of course, this is merely a general statement of ethical code benefits. The effects of ethical codes extend much further than just mere decision-making. However, those effects are not always positive. There are disadvantages as well.

Keeping these facts in mind, what are the overall benefits of having professional codes of ethics? Do the benefits outweigh the disadvantages of not having them? Or is it better to simply not establish such codes, and rely on individuals' personal ethics? For this Focused Discussion, research a case study involving ethical standards and use the points made within it to inform your position on these questions.

To complete this :

Post: Create an article in which you evaluate the overall benefits of having professional codes of ethics. Base your evaluation on whether these benefits outweigh the disadvantages of not having professional codes of ethics.

Additionally, identify a current case study involving ethical standards, and analyse the responsibilities of professionals and organisation(s) in that case study. Apply your arguments, as to whether it is better to have a professional code of ethics or not, to your selected case study.

Explain whether you think the responsibilities of professionals and organisation(s) in your case study are aided or impeded by a professional code of ethics.
