Write balanced chemical equation and determine the molecular weight of the reactants.

1.Within the cylinders of a car's engine, the hydrocarbon octane (C8H18), one of the many components of gasoline, mixes with oxygen from the air and burns to from carbon dioxide and water vapor.  Write a balanced equation for this reaction.

2.Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, C9H8O4) can be made by reacting salicylic acid (C7H6O3) with acetic anhydride [(CH3CO)2O] by the following reaction:

C7H6O3 (s) +    (CH3CO)2O(l)  à      C9H8O4 (s)  +      CH3COOH(l)

Calculate the molecular weights of the reactant(s).

3. If you take 4-500mg tablets of aspirin, how many molecules of aspirin did you ingest?
