Find sample size, mean and standard deviation for the binomial distribution.
Forest Fires: Satellite Detection The National Forest Service uses satellites with infrared sensors to defect forest fires in remote wilderness areas. The satellites are very sensitive and do find all the hot spots. However, the satellites register geothermal hot spots, cloud cover, manmade bonfires, etc., as well as hot spots caused by forest fires. Over a period of years, the Forest Service has decided that only 85% of the hot spots reported by the satellite are forest fires. The usual procedure is to send out a reconnaissance plane to check on what the satellite has detected. Let us say that the satellite was successful if it reports a hot spot that is a forest fire.Recently, the satellite reported nine hot spots in the remote Seward Peninsula of Alaska.
a) Based on the satellite information, what is the expected number µ of real forest fires on the Seward Peninsula?b) What is the standard deviation σ?c) How many hot spots must the satellite report to be 99.9% sure of at least on real forest fire?
Create a frequency table for the total number of people that prefer each type of music:
Their resting heart rates were measured. A partial ANOVA table is given.
Make up a scatter diagram with 10 dots for each of the following situations:
At the .01 level of signiicance, is the true mean greater than 10?
Is there evidence of a significant difference in the proportion who get their news primarily from newspapers between those 36 to 50 years old and those above 50 years old? (use α = 0.05)
Categorize the events as dependent or independent. Events A and B where P (A) = 0.7, P (B) = 0.8, and P (A and B) = 0.56.
The Kruskal-Wallis rank test is a nonparametric replacement - The Wilcoxon rank sum test tests a null hypothesis
What is the probability that a roulette ball will come to rest on an even number other than 0 and 00?
Suppose we wish to test the null hypothesis that there are no differences among the proportion of men and women who developed a rash. Evaluate the P-value of the chi-square test of this hypothesis.
What is the likelihood the sample mean is greater than $22.50 but less than $25.00?
Set-up/solve the problem graphically. (How many ceiling fans and how many floor fans should be made?)
The simple coefficient of determination is the proportion of total variation explained by the regression line.
