The nursing supervisor on the night shift at the local hospital receives a call from the charge nurse on one of the medical-surgical units. The charge nurse is calling to report a situation where a registered nurse and a nursing unit assistant have exchanged photos of patients in embarrassing moments. The photos were taken using personal cell phones and without the patients' knowledge or consent. Per hospital policy, the supervisor has confiscated the cell phones from the RN and the NUA and turned them over to the hospital administration.

To this point, the patients and their families are unaware of the incidents. A decision needs to be made as to whether or not to inform the patients and their families.
